I have a dual-core Intel cpu that powers my website which is written in Squeak Smalltalk. This is not even a Core 2 Duo machine which they say is blazingly fast. My computer is a garden-variety Intel Dual Core computer. When I bought it I thought it was sexy enough and I never knew about Core 2 Duo. That's why I got it, that the price was cheap worked in its favor. Everyone wants power and speed and I am no exception. Just today I was talking to someone about motherboards that support quad-core processors. The price is quite high, the quad, when compared to the prices being charged for Intel Core 2 Duo processors. I am really an AMD fan and I believe that AMD has an ass-kicking processor in the Opteron. I just get confused with the names. Local stores call everything AMD either an Athlon or a Sempron. I could not get anyone to talk to me about Opteron as though it does not exist at all.
Come into these sites: Squeak Smalltalk Adventure, The Ordinary Life, Politics: Divine Right of Kings and Presidents, Creation, Life, Consciousness.
So my Dual Core computer is way down low in the Intel pecking order which would tend to make it an underdog. At least subjectively speaking. Somehow, perception counts a lot when considering computers and deciding if you need a more powerful one.

Personal Computers
Computers are probably the biggest inventioni in the last century. The computer has changed almost all aspects of human life. Even little kids use computers these days in ways that are more sophisticated than before when kiddie computers allowed them to play kiddie games. I recall a time when programming in BASIC with an Apple II was such a cool thing. Getting introduced to this tiny little appliance where a 14-inch green monitor sits, was such an experience and it seemed like there was no limit to what could be done. These days the notion of geographical distance makes very little meaning since it is so easy to talk to someone on the other side of the globe face to face using software freely available in computers.
Everyone could use some interesting reading. Try these: Rails brought me to Seaside, Lotto, Yamashita gold, Nothing but flowers, Lilliputs flowers. Enjoy these!!
Kids nowadays routinely make websites where they interact with others. Ching's World is one rocking website and now it sits comfortably in #1. It took some coaxing but finally Ching's World is well ensconced in its rightful place. Ching's World was written in Smalltalk on the Seaside framework.
Get into the acion. Take a look at: Ching's World, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro City, Dumaguete, Moira Trinity, Papoy.

Computers: Hardware and Software
Computers have changed the world more radically than anything else invented by man. More so when the Internet was invented. More than just a means of counting or computing large numbers, computers have become a tool for social interaction. The arts have also been enhanced by the invention of computer graphics. Music has also been given a boost by the advent of computers
One could therefore say that computers have truly left their mark on human life and human relationships. The movable type revolutionized printing resulting in literacy speeding upwards as books became available. Computers and the software that run them have far outpaced expectations as people invent new ways of using them.
Websites are a way of communicating and it is estimated that over six hundred million people surf the net at any one time thereby replacing the printed word as a means of bringing ideas across. Ching's World is one such website that seeks to bring across a small niche such as the Philippines, Cagayan de Oro City and Dumaguete in front of people surfing the Internet. Ching's World rocks!!
